Before His holy throne,
Who loved the world with tender care

He came down from His Father’s lap,
Into a manger laid,
And with all lowliness His hap,
Here was His love displayed.
He uttered words of truth and grace,
The meekest of all kings,
Assuming here a servant’s place,
The Maker of all things.
He made for us the great exchange
And flesh and blood took on,
Our place in Heaven to arrange,
To sit beside His throne.
He was a slave, that I be crowned:
None could exchange like He,
Nor can a better friend be found
Than Jesus, dear to me.
Where cherubim stood guard before,
Through Christ we now pass by,
Who opened Paradise’s door
